Here’s my early 80’s Guerciotti (59 cm). I bought this as a junior in high school when I was into the idea of bike racing. Top riders in the Tour de France rode bikes like this. It’s still a wonderful bike and I use it for most many of my Friday excursions. It’s been modified from it’s original condition in the following ways: I’ve put wider, more comfortable tires on clincher rims (sew-ups originally), re-tapped the handlebars with hemp-twine and three coats of shellac, added a Brooks saddle, and attached a front rack. She’s relatively light, fast, and can hold extra clothes, food, a camera, or whatever in the old TA bag.

  1. Very neat web / blog. How do you acquire the software to set up.
Nice graphics, copy, set up, etc.. Nice intro pic of you as well.

  2. Raleigh, I use a platform called WordPress. There’s two versions: wordpress.org is the more complicated version (which I use) that requires you to set up a hosting site, but allows limitless modifications and then there’s WordPress.com, which is easier to set-up initially, but allows less customization.

  3. Nathan,
I’m impressed by all the riding you’re able to do. What a great way to explore the area.
I too ride a fair bit – including commuting and the occasional organized randonneuring event. I am interested in the possiblity of a 650B bike in the future. The Ebisu you have is a beautiful machine. May I ask the size (ST, TT, saddle height). The reason is that I’m fairly tall and lanky. At a certain size, the 650B may be a great alternative to a 700c bike. Right now I’m on a 61 cm ST) and 58 cm (TT) 700c bike.
    Thank you.

  4. Ron, glad you like the Ebisu. She’d probably fit you well. I stand about 5’11”. The frame measurements appear identical to what you’re riding: TT 59cm (center-center); ST 61 cm (center-top); saddle height around 100cm (depending on the shoes I’m wearing).

  5. I have an almost identical bicycle. My bike also originally had sew up tires.I had campy super record gears and components. I admire that you can climb hills as you only have 12 speeds and no really low gears like today’s bikes.

  6. Hal/ that’s awesome! You’re still riding the bike it sounds like. I replaced the original Regina rear cluster with a Suntour. The bike is still a 12-speed, but the low gear now uses a 28t in the back. I wrote about this mod here:
