On the Road……China Camp State Park, San Rafael

China Camp State Park borders the San Pablo Bay. Less well-known than the San Francisco Bay, San Pablo Bay has its own low-key charm.

The lagoons and picnic areas around China Camp are great places to stop for a beer, some food, or just to soak your feet (if not go for a swim). Plus, the trails in the surrounding hills draw mountain bikers from around the region.

The name of the park derives from the 1880s Chinese shrimp fishing village that once thrived here.

  1. good thing it’s tucked not rolled at the Boy’s school they told us one pant leg rolled up is a “gang sign” he whispered to me i thought it meant I ride a bike

  2. irishpunk59/ it’s on: the tucked versus rolled gang feud begins now!

  3. Always inordinately pleased to see someone else admitting to sock-stuffing in public. My brother thinks it’s firmly in the land of trainspotters and bird twitchers, of which, I am neither. 🙂 I’m just always losing my pant leg straps and the sock is always there and waiting.

  4. bb/ i temporarily questioned the move after it was highlighted in the ’40-year-old-virgin’ film by the steve carell character, but that was short lived. i fully embrace and celebrate the look now. 🙂
