On the Road……Sabino’s secret (or not-so-secret) swimming holes
I love a good swimming hole, but until recently had no idea they could exist in Tucson in the middle of the summer!
Incredibly, just two weeks ago this creek was nearly dry. But our last big monsoon sent water cascading down the canyon slopes, which filled up various pools along Sabino Creek, and made many of them suitable for swimming.
[Note: I’m not Geo-tagging this image in order to keep the location a bit of a mystery. However, if you’re curious and want to read a post from the archives — I did reveal the location of another superb swimming hole near my old home just north of San Francisco.]

On the Road……Olema, End of Indian Summer
I discovered a new swimming hole this year. Just in time, as Northern California’s Indian Summer (usually Sept-Oct) finally ushered in some genuinely hot weather.
Last year’s End of Summer post described another popular swim hole: the Inkwells.
The new spot is about a 15-mile roundtrip from the town of Olema, with mostly rolling hills and the occasional volley of cars skimming by pretty close as there is no shoulder for protection along Hwy 1.

On the Road……The Inkwells and the End of Summer
Once again the heat (mid-90’s F) kept me close to home. I rode out to this semi-secret swimming hole — the Inkwells as it’s known to locals. I met some hospitable folks and had a nice swim. The Geotag shows the location. Don’t tell, but do drop by for a swim if you’re pedaling out toward Pt. Reyes.
